ICON INTERIOR DESIGN (441 MACPHERSON ROAD)
Poor Workmanship & Follow-up Services
After getting the necessary done, I have filed the case with The Small Claims Tribunals on Monday, 20 October 2014. Just like the earlier case which I have submitted in Jan 2014, I am claiming against ICON INTERIOR DESIGN (441 Macpherson Road). The Notice of Consultation has been delivered by hand on the same day. Since I have already started this thread, I will be putting up my learning, which I hope will be useful to anyone who is embarking on home renovation. Too much to write at one go. Here's my first learning point!
Communication
Any conversation with regard to the renovation should be documented in watapps or sms chat history. Apart from the contract agreement (which should be detailed), any changes/agreement made verbally during the renovation process should be written in black and white. The easiest way is to follow up with watapps/sms messages sent to your project manager. E.g. John, as agreed earlier in our meeting, these are the things to take note.... (and you list the items). Personally, I prefer messaging system to email as you will likely to get instant acknowledgement. Keep these messages and do a back up in case your phone gives up on you. DO NOT DELETE THE CHAT HISTORY even when the entire renovation is completed. Keep the messages in your computer or somewhere in the virtual space.
If there are any dispute, documentation of your conversations with the ID company will come in useful. If, unfortunately, you have to file any claims against your ID company, you will need PROOF to support what you state in the case you submitted to The Small Claims Tribunals. Facts are only facts when they are supported by evidences. Otherwise, it is just your words against that of the ID company. For my first claim against ICON INTERIOR DESIGN (441 Machperson Road) earlier this year, I have submitted a copy of my chat history with Wayne Chan, the sole proprietor of the company as evidences. My personal experience tells me that such evidences add volume to your claims.
Homeowners who are doing any renovation, please be diligent and document your conversations. This will not only safeguard your interest as consumers but also to be fair to the ID company.
Will continue again with my learning in subsequent posts.
